Pet-Friendly Cleaning: Safe Products for Homes with Cats and Dogs
5 min read · 10 Ten Cleans Editorial Team

Pets share our floors, sofas, and sometimes our beds, so what we clean with matters as much as what we feed them. Many conventional cleaners leave residue that is harmless to adults but irritating or worse to animals that walk on treated surfaces and then groom themselves.
Why pets are more exposed
A dog or cat has a lower body weight and direct skin contact with floors, plus the habit of licking paws and fur. Residue from a strong floor cleaner is ingested, not just touched. Fragrances and essential oils that smell clean to us can also be toxic to cats in particular.
What pet-safe cleaning looks like
Use plant-based, biodegradable products that rinse away completely, and avoid phenols, bleach-heavy formulations, and anything labelled "keep away from animals." Microfibre and steam clean most hard floors effectively with little or no product at all.
Rinsing matters
After mopping with any product, a clean-water rinse of the floor removes the residue a pet would otherwise walk through. It is a small step that makes a real difference.
Our standard
Our regular cleans use professional-grade, eco-certified products that are safe for homes with children and pets. We rinse hard floors as standard and keep strong agents for the jobs that truly need them — the oven, the toilet, and limescale — where we can rinse and ventilate afterwards.
